Oslo Airport has been named the best airport in Europe for the 25-40 million passengers category at the ACI EUROPE Awards, recognized for its operational excellence.
Norway’s premier airport has clinched the top spot in Europe’s Best Airports ranking for the 25-40 million annual passenger category at the ACI EUROPE Best Airport Awards.
This is a great honour and recognition of the work done every single day at Oslo Airport. Airports Council International Europe (ACI EUROPE) is an organization that encompasses more than 500 European airports in 55 countries. Receiving this award is therefore highly prestigious, says Avinor’s CEO, Abraham Foss, who was present during the awards ceremony in Istanbul yesterday and received the prize on behalf of Oslo Airport.
The jury included representatives from European authorities, esteemed aviation consultants, and the media.
The ACI EUROPE Best Airport Awards are presented annually to airports excelling in various strategic, economic, operational, environmental, and social parameters. The award ceremony, attended by hundreds of European aviation industry representatives, took place in Istanbul on July 3rd.
In the jury’s rationale, Oslo Airport’s remarkable operational and punctuality performance in 2023 was emphasized. Notably, Oslo Airport was Europe’s most punctual airport in both 2022 and 2023. The airport has also implemented an innovative baggage system, drone detection, and autonomous snow removal technologies. The judges recognized its comprehensive approach to sustainability challenges, highlighting its innovative, circular economy strategy aimed at achieving zero waste by 2030.
We are pleased and proud that Avinor’s active sustainability agenda receives this recognition. We should also not forget that Oslo Airport is among the most weather-challenged airports in the world. Being named Europe’s most punctual and best airport in the same year is a great achievement. Many deserve praise today, says Foss.
Commends the Employees
The CEO highlights that the dedication and hard work of employees across Avinor and all staff at the country’s main airport are the reasons behind Oslo Airport receiving this prestigious award.
It is thanks to the 13 000 employees at Oslo Airport, the hard work of many at Avinor, and very good partners both on the ground and in the air, that we receive this kind of recognition. I would therefore like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who works at and with Oslo Airport.
The Minister of Transport Jon-Ivar Nygård congratulates Oslo Airport with the award:
Being named Europe’s best airport is great news for Oslo Airport. Those who work at Oslo Airport put in great efforts every day, year-round, and in all kinds of weather to ensure passengers have a good travel experience. In Norway, we are entirely dependent on aviation. Having an efficient and reliable main airport in Norway is crucial for passengers and the entire business community. I congratulate Avinor and Oslo Airport on this well-deserved award, says Minister of Transport Jon-Ivar Nygård.
Athens International Airport was the runner-up in the ACI ranking for airports handling 25-40 million travelers. In 2023, 15 airports of this size were among the hundred busiest airports in Europe. Istanbul Airport won the award for the best airport in the category of over 40 million passengers.
