FILIPINO films are competing in several categories of this year’s edition of the International Filmmaker Festival of World Cinema Berlin, to be held in Germany from Oct. 22 to 29.

“Iadya Mo Kami” is up for four trophies in the foreign language film section: best lead actor (Allen Dizon), supporting actor (Eddie Garcia), director (Mel Chionglo) and foreign language feature film. “Iadya” is also vying for top honors in the 13th Salento International Film Festival in Tricase, Italy, from Sept. 2 to 10.

Also nominated in the Berlin fest is “Tomodachi,” which is included in six categories: best lead actor (Jacky Woo), director (Joel Lamangan), cinematography (Ron Lacap Gozon), original screenplay (Eric Ramos), original score (Emerzon Texon and Woo) and foreign language film.

Alvin Galang’s “Walang Take Two” is competing in two categories: Jury Award and best lead actress (Kimberly Anne Cordero).

Ronaldo Bertubin’s “Ku’te” is also nominated for best director of a foreign language film and lead actress (Marielle Therese).

Woo’s “Kaikou,” which is coproduced by filmmaker Adolfo Alix Jr., is nominated for best director, foreign language feature, cinematography (Masashi Komino) and costume (Emil Pacheco and Elizabeth Tablan).

“An Open Door” is likewise competing for best story (Noel M. Izon, Sharon Delmendo), director of a feature documentary (Izon) and editing (Richard E. Dean).

The docu recounts how Philippine President Manuel L. Quezon helped save 1,300 Jews as they fled Germany during World War II. Bayani San Diego Jr.
