Forest social media post was ‘nothing to do’ with Clattenburgpublished at 11:49

BBC Radio 5 Live

Former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg on the social media post from Nottingham Forest
immediately after the defeat to Everton:
“First of all, that had nothing to do with me. I was aware there was a lot of discussion during the game, that there was a lot of upset because certain people within the
club were watching the match. They could see the replays, they could see
certain decisions going against the club in such a high-profile match.

“It was going to have a huge impact on the relegation fight, because we
had Luton third from bottom, Nottingham Forest fourth [from bottom], Everton
fifth [from bottom]. If Nottingham had
won it, they would have gone above Everton, and if Everton won, they would have built a
bigger gap.

“So there was a huge impact on this match, and they saw decisions go
against the club. This hadn’t happened just from this match. We looked at
incidents against West Ham, Newcastle United, Brighton away – there were a lot
of incidents in a short period of time.

“And the PGMOL, Howard Webb openly
admitted many times that there were wrong decisions. They could have had a
huge impact on Nottingham Forest staying in the Premier League and staying in
the Premier League is such a huge thing. So that tweet wasn’t just about this
match, I think it was a lot of ill feeling.”
