Poland is a gorgeous holiday destination with a bargain coastline, historic cities and natural beauty.

The affordable country is the ideal choice for a 2024 holiday on a budget but which of its cities is the most walkable?

According to a study by ComparetheMarket, Warsaw is one of the world’s most walkable cities which is great news for Britons as another recent study found it’s also one of Europe’s cheapest city breaks.

The study found that Warsaw’s compact size makes it easy to explore on foot while 74 percent of the Polish capital’s population lives within 1km of a car-free area.

If you don’t want to walk, Warsaw’s public transport system is affordable for tourists making it an easy way to explore the city.

Start your walk in Warsaw Old Town which was rebuilt after it was destroyed during World War II.

In the old town’s pretty square, you’ll find plenty of people-watching spots while Warsaw Castle is under five minutes walk away.

The reconstructed Royal Castle is now a state museum and is also often the location for official visits.

From the Old Town, it’s a 20-minute walk to the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews, Warsaw’s best-rated museum.

The museum charts the history of Polish Jews and honours those who were killed in the Holocaust.

It’s then around half an hour’s walk to the Palace of Culture and Science. Poland’s second-tallest building, the tower was designed in Soviet style and the terrace has fantastic views of the city.

The tower is just a short walk from the Museum of Life in the Polish People’s Republic which looks at everyday life for Poles under Soviet rule.

Stop at a local restaurant to sample pierogi dumplings, a Polish staple that can be stuffed with meat, cheese or vegetables.

For dessert, opt for a slice of Polish plum cake, baked doughnuts filled with rose-petal jam or apple cake.
