While many foodie hotspots are already world-famous, a new study has revealed the top untapped destinations for those seeking the best culinary delights in the continent.

The experts at italki have examined the number of restaurants, four-star and above venues, Michelin-starred spots, and vegetarian eateries to uncover the top lesser-known destinations for culinary enthusiasts.

The top spot is home to 215 four-star restaurants (per 1,000 people), along with 30 prestigious Michelin-starred establishments.

9. San Sebastian, Spain

San Sebastian is a paradise for food lovers, renowned for its delectable Basque cuisine and unique pintxo culture. Basque cuisine prioritises fresh, seasonal ingredients sourced from the nearby mountains and the Cantabrian Sea. Fish, seafood, vegetables, and high-quality dairy products take centre stage.

7. Bath, UK

Bath is the only UK spot on the list, representing its local cuisine with the creamy and crumbly homonymous cheese and fresh, seasonal ingredients sourced from the surrounding countryside. Bath is famed for its elegant afternoon tea tradition, complete with scones with clotted cream and jam, finger sandwiches, and a pot of tea in luxurious hotels or charming tea rooms.
