Must read

Need to get somewhere across the water in Venice, but don’t have a boat? Want to cruise the blues around Ibiza, Mykonos, or Santorini but need something that floats, preferably with sun pads and horsepower? No problem. Hail your on-water ride through Uber Reserve.

Long a staple for mobile transport on land, Uber is expanding to the sea with several launches in key European cities this year. Based on 2023 numbers showing demand for Uber’s services increased by 55 percent in locations like Greece and Spain, the new services are expected to add to the already 6.5 million international users of the Uber app. According to the Uber website newsroom, the Uber app was opened more than 800,000 times just on the tiny island of Ibiza.

Ibiza’s Uber Yacht Slated For August Launch

This summer, Uber’s most luxurious product to date will offer guests on the Mediterranean island of Ibiza the opportunity to pre-book a private yacht using the Uber app. Docking at the Ibiza Town Marina daily at noon, the stylish Sunseeker yacht will carry as many as eight guests, cruising around the white island in ultimate luxury for an eight-hour trip.

Uber suggests a tour through the legendary pellucid waters surrounding Formentera in the Balearic Sea, or a view of Es Vedra’s 413-meter rocky island silhouette against a sunset backdrop, as possible highlights.

The service will begin taking reservations on July 26 for the month of August, requiring 24-hour advance booking through Uber Reserve in Ibiza. Complete with personal skipper, complimentary Champagne, light fare from local sources, and transfers to and from the yacht originating anywhere on the island, the yacht is on offer for €1600 ($1723).

Venice Features On-Demand Limo Boat

Launching this summer, guests in Venice, Italy can elevate themselves above the water taxi experience by booking a chic wooden limo boat through Uber, specifying hundreds of point-to-point locations throughout the Venetian Lagoon. Scheduled to operate between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm, the limos can accommodate six passengers. The $130 price compares fairly with some of the other on-water options, such as gondolas, through the intricate canals of this historic city.

Mykonos, Athens, Corfu, and Santorini Join The List

Uber Boat services in Greece are set to embrace several important map coordinates along the Aegean after the success of their Mykonos launch in the summer of 2023. Later in July, those seeking an Uber connection to exotic locations like Athens, Corfu, and Santorini, whether to remote islands or to a busy beach club, can secure a boat through the Uber app.

Paris Gets Electric

Beginning this summer, Uber guests in Paris can request an all-electric Uber Cruise along the Seine. Taking in the sights, like the Pont Alexandre III connecting the left and right banks, the Pont St-Michel, the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame Cathedral, and the Conciergerie, guests can toast to their good fortune with a glass of bubbly while leisurely navigating the river.

During the Olympics, Uber will offer free 1-hour rides July 12 to August 3, 2024, to help ease the crowd crush and shuttle visitors along the river.

London’s Uber Boat By Thames Clipper Routes

Thames Clippers have been operating on the River for 20 some years, but in July of 2020, Uber bought them and rebranded as Uber Boat By Thames Clippers, offering Uber service on the water to commuters and tourists alike. A River Roamer all day pass to all 24 piers in all zones is a mere £22.10 ($28.20).

More like a river bus than a boat, these boats carried over four million passengers. Arriving at central piers every 20 minutes, timetables are convenient and reliable.

Innovative Future Awaits Uber Platform

So, what might be next on the Uber horizon? An easy guess. Can you say VTOL?

Uber Elevate has taken DEP, Distributed Electric Propulsion, under its wing, planning on the development of eVTOL, vertical takeoff and landing, aircraft. Think skyports and data-powered networks that help travelers and tourists avoid snafus, such as those created by traffic, construction, or weather, by rerouting their trips via land, sea, or air. Ready to book? May not be available tomorrow, but really, it’s just around the corner.
