Even as far as Scottish summers go, warm days have been few and far between this year – but we could soon be treated to temperatures in the 20s.
Rain, wind and clouds have defined the season so far. A ‘danger to life’ rain warning is in place from late Tuesday through the entirety of Wednesday for much of northwest Scotland.
However, weather maps show there could be a change next week. Scots can look forward to temperatures as hot as 23C on Friday July 19. The data from WXCharts shows a warm weather front coming from Europe that could dispel the chilly weather for a time.
The best temperatures could be in Aberdeenshire where the mercury could hit 23C. Elsewhere in the east coast and central belt, temperatures are predicted to be a pleasant 20C.
The Met Office long range forecast for next week indicates more sun and warmer weather. Conditions will “recover” to around or above average temperatures and feel warm in sunnier periods outside of showers and thunderstorms.
It predicts a more settled spell to the southwest mid-week possibly spreading to much of the UK. Even so, the service says this respite will only likely be brief before a more showery northwest blast resumes.
From the end of July to August, the Met Office forecasts: “Above average temperatures overall, and drier than average conditions overall, are very slightly favoured.”
Before the finer weather, people in Aberdeenshire, the Highlands and Moray are warned of heavy rain arriving late today (July 9). Heavier bursts of rain could see 3.5inches of rain drench the Grampians and Northwest Highlands.
The warning says: “Areas of rain moving into northern Scotland from late Tuesday into Wednesday are expected to become heavy with some embedded showery outbreaks as the band slows down and focusses across the east coast and Moray Firth.
“20-30mm through the period is expected quite widely, however localised heavier bursts of rain likely to build totals toward 50-75mm with up to 90mm possible across Grampians and Northwest Highlands.”
