Talking about the Solar Eclipse or Surya Grahan (as called in Hindi) on April 8, 2024, Gurudev Shrie Kashyap- Astrologer, Chairman and Founder of All India Institute of Occult Science, said, “The year 2024 unfolds with a celestial spectacle– a total solar eclipse on April 8th. This event holds huge significance in Vedic astrology, offering a unique opportunity for introspection and alignment with powerful cosmic forces.”

Here Gurudev Shrie Kashyap writes about the colours one should wear or avoid on this day.

Astrological story about Surya Grahan In Vedic Astrology, the period of Surya Grahan or Solar eclipse is seen as a very unlucky omen. Because, during this time the evil spirits become more powerful. Additionally, it is due to Rahu and Ketu’s malefic effects. As during the Samudra Manthan, an asura Swarbhanu disguised himself as a god. But Surya dev and Chandra dev informed Lord Vishnu immediately. So, when Mohini Avatar of Vishnu sliced Swabhanu’s head, its head became Rahu and the rest of the body, Ketu. Thus, they decided to cast a shadow on Surya and Chandra dev.

The science behind a solar eclipseAs per astronomy, a total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon moves directly between the Earth and the Sun, thus blocking the Sun’s light and casting a shadow on parts of the Earth. This occurs because of how the Earth, Moon, and Sun are positioned and sized.

The Moon doesn’t orbit the Earth in a perfect circle; it’s a little bit oval-shaped. So, its distance from the Earth changes a bit as it goes around. Also, the Moon’s orbit is tilted by about 5 degrees compared to the Earth’s orbit around the Sun.

When the Moon crosses the path of the Sun’s orbit at the same time it is closest to the Earth in its oval-shaped path, and it lines up perfectly between the Earth and the Sun, we see a total solar eclipse. For people on Earth in the narrow strip where the Moon’s shadow falls (called the path of totality), the Moon looks like it’s completely covering the Sun, making it go dark for a little for a few minutes during the day.

However, we don’t get to see a total solar eclipse every time the Sun, Moon, and Earth line up. Sometimes, the alignment isn’t exact, so we see a partial eclipse where only part of the Sun is covered, or there might not be an eclipse at all.
