Spain willing to take Lamine Yamal Euro 2024 risk despite unusual German rule

Must read

Spain will play Lamine Yamal in their Euro 2024 last-16 clash on Monday, despite any risk of breaking German law.

Yamal has taken the Euros by storm despite the Barcelona star still being just 16.

He started their first two group games, grabbing an assist against Croatia.

He was on the bench for the final group game with Albania, coming on for the final 18 minutes.

Spain qualified top of their group and are one of the favourites for the tournament.

However, every time Yamal plays in those evening games for Spain, they are seemingly risking breaking German employment law.

That is because under German law, those who are under the age of 18 are not allowed to work past 8pm (Central European Time).

According to BILD, via Cadena Cope, there are exceptions to the rule for athletes – who are allowed to play until 11pm (CET).

However, that cut-off point does not come after the full-time whistle and is instead marked after time to shower and media duties.

La Roja have been told they could face a potential €30,000 fine (£25,350.69) if they break the law.

However, that depends on whether German authorities decide to act, which appears to be unlikely at this current time.

The law was put in place to prevent young people from being exploited in the workforce and to protect their safety and well-being.

Luis de la Fuente was even asked about the risks and he has no issue keeping him in despite the legislation.

Yamal has already proved he is a key player for Spain

Spain face Georgia in the late game on Sunday evening.

“We’re all responsible for his wellbeing. We’re going to do our job and let him play. Nothing more”, as per quotes from Marca.

“I don’t know the German legislation. Does Lamine have to be removed by 23:00? I don’t think so.”
