Until July 18, passes purchased for travel from September 1, 2024 are 20% off so holiday hopefuls need to hurry to get the deal
With the cost-of-living crisis squeezing budgets, the prospect of an affordable European adventure may seem out of reach for many this summer. However, savvy travellers are turning to the Interrail and Eurail train pass systems to make their money go further.
A one-month Interrail Global Pass, which covers 33 countries, can be purchased for just £188 – but holidaymakers need to be quick to catch the deal. This provides unlimited train travel across the continent, allowing holidaymakers to hop on and off services as they please.
Until July 18, passes purchased for travel from September 1, 2024 are 20% off. A global Interrail pass gives you between three and 15 days of travel, depending on the pass you opt for.
Here’s how to make the most of a month-long break:
· Holiday makers could use their Interrail pass to journey from London to Paris, Berlin, Prague, Vienna and Budapest over the course of a month. Eurostar isn’t included in your pass, but you get a significant reduction.
· Travellers can enjoy the all the Mediterranean Sea has to offer and catch the trains from Valencia to Barcelona, Marseille, Nice, Genoa and finish their journey in Rome.
· Another route could take globetrotters from France to Türkiye via train from Paris to Munich, Zagreb, Belgrade, Sofia and ending in Istanbul.
· Other spectacular routes include starting in Paris, then heading to Amsterdam, over to Berlin, south to Prague, then on to Vienna and finally Budapest.
· Those looking to head further north could start their adventure in Copenhagen before taking a short train ride across the Öresund Bridge to the Swedish city of Malmö, heading up to Stockholm to the Swedish capital before taking a ferry across the Baltic Sea to Helsinki, Finland
Interrail’s pass “opens up Europe to independent travellers who want to discover as much as possible in the limited time and budget they have.” In 2023, 1.2 million Eurail and Interrail passes were sold worldwide.
With some smart planning, Interrail users can find ways to keep other holiday expenses low. Hostels across Europe offer dorm beds from as little as £10 per night, while budget travellers often shop at local supermarkets and frequent street food vendors to help minimise food costs.
So for those dreaming of an affordable continental getaway this summer, the Interrail pass could be the key to stretching your euros further and making lasting memories on a tight budget.
