Must read

North Bucharest is the flagship for the Therme concept and is the most advanced resort to date, featuring 37,000 square-metres of wellness, leisure and spa space. Boasting 800,000 plants, 1,500 palm trees and the largest urban beach in Europe, it is no surprise the resort has had over five million visitors since opening in 2016.

Therme Group’s long term vision is to create the world’s most advanced wellbeing resorts, embodying a perfect interplay of nature, technology and culture. The ethos behind the centre is that wellbeing should be accessible to all and not just the privileged few.

The highly energy-efficient building facilitates the complex’s heating through thermal water exchange and the water purification system is the most advanced in the world.

Facilities

Therme has an indoor temperature of 29-30 degrees Celsius and a water temperature of 33 degrees Celsius, every month of the year. The thermal water makes its way from deep underground to supply 10 pools, six saunas, four wet saunas and 16 water slides. With a focus on nature being a key component of well-being, the flora in Therme is 100% natural, and boasts the largest botanical garden in Romania.

There are three distinct areas – Galaxy, The Palm and Elysium.

Galaxy is geared towards family fun; in the Galaxy outdoor area you will find a sandy beach, water slides, a wave pool, and a handy pool bar, and the outdoor pool connects to the indoor pool. Indoors in Galaxy there is a relax pool, which has hydro massage seats, recreation areas and another pool bar and the USP for this area has to be the incredible fully retractable roof, which has a surface area of 800 square meters.

The Palm has a more relaxed atmosphere; there is an indoor and outdoor pool, terraces, Jacuzzis, sun loungers and fabulous mineral pools, each one catering for a different need. Also unique to this pool is the crazy river, where you can swim against a current.

Elysium-6
Elysium holds selenium baths, zinc baths and themed saunas

Over in Elysium the focus is heavily on well-being, with selenium baths and also zinc baths at your disposal and themed saunas. The treatment rooms are also located in Elysium, as is the panoramic indoor pool with, yet another, pool bar. One thing is for certain, you will not go thirsty or hungry at Therme!

Therme also offer a range of fitness classes throughout the day and hosts special wellness events as well as dedicated treatment rooms where you can indulge in a variety of massages and facials. There are also DIY pods where you have access to body mud etc, you apply the mud yourself and enter the pod to have it work to its full potential.

Therme is open 365 days of the year. We suggest you arrive early in the morning and leave last thing at night to ensure you enjoy everything that Therme has to offer, and there is a lot!

Food

Humboldt-1
The Humboldt restaurant holds 12 live cooking stations and menus with over 70 dishes

There is no shortage of food in this place; The Galaxy restaurant has 400 covers and menus include typical American and Italian cuisine such as burgers, pizzas, pastas, salads and barbecue dishes. Here, you will also find a snack bar where you can fill up on re-energising drinks, desserts and, of course, fill your boots at the ice cream parlour.

The Palm area hosts a couple of restaurants, including the Humboldt, named after the German explorer, Alexander von Humboldt. It is fully equipped with 12 live cooking stations and menus providing over 70 dishes in five different areas as well as a vitamin bar.

The Beach Barbecue restaurant offers internationally-inspired food, with the menu developed by renowned Chef Lucian Dobre, while The Mango Tree, which is located in the Elysium area, offers a higher level of dining with Thai based cuisine.

Best bits

The Palm-3
The Palm area has a more relaxed atmosphere with an indoor and outdoor pool, terraces, Jacuzzis, sun loungers and fabulous mineral pools

The best thing about Therme is its close proximity to the airport – you can fly in first thing in the morning enjoy all the facilities and be home by late evening. The price is excellent, making it accessible to all, with up to 40 daily activities included in the entry price. Every taste is catered for, thanks to the number of eateries available and, for UK residents, the good news is that there are plans to build a Therme in Manchester hopefully launching in 2022.

Worst bits

The noise levels – even though the Galaxy area is designated for families, the noise throughout the facility is something that cannot be controlled. The facility can accommodate up to 4,000 visitors so if you aren’t a people person it’s best to avoid!

In a nutshell

The Therme concept at heart is an excellent one, for as little as £10 per day you can enter and use certain level facilities, pay up to £30 and you can enter the rest with treatments, food and drink not included. Therme really does have something for everyone, you can spend a full day there with family, or your girlfriends and, no matter what, your needs will be taken care of.
