A major train accident reported from the Czech Republic’s Pardubice, as per reports, left several people injured Wednesday night. The crash happened as two trains, one freight and the other passenger, collided with each other. The incident prompted a quick response from the authorities in the European nation. An evacuation drive was launched amid the reports of four people feared dead.
The entire security apparatus including the officials from the Police responded to the scene. Due to mass injuries, a trauma plan has been announced. The videos from the spot showed a large number of people being hurt.
According to the news agency Associated Press, those killed in the accidents were on board in either of the trains. The officials told the press that at least 23 people were injured in the crash. This was also reiterated by the Czech Republic’s Interior Minister VÃt RakuÅ¡an, who said that the collision took place late Wednesday night.
The accident’s site in the city of Pardubice is some 100 kilometers (62 miles) east of Prague, the AP’s report informed further. The authorities launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash. The Minister said that the passenger train belonged to the private RegioJet company.
In order to investigate the authorities in the Czech Republic, as per the country’s Transport Minister Martin Kupka, closed a major track between Prague and the eastern part of the country. Prime Minister Petr Fiala expressed his condolences to the victims and their families. He called the crash a big tragedy.
