UK city wins award for having the best sustainable attraction in Europe

Edinburgh, Scotland, has snatched the top spot in TripAdvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards Best of the Best Things to Do for 2024, for the best sustainable experience in Europe.

The number one spot went to Edinburgh Castle, in Scotland, for the inaugural Sustainable category.




Out of the top ten spots in the category, the UK secured four of them including Hever Castle & Garden at number four, the Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh named number five and Chelsea Physic Garden in London in eight place.

When it came to the overall best experiences in the world the top experience, according to TripAdvisor reviewers, is a walking tour of the picturesque town of Porto in Portugal.

The Unvanquished Tour in Porto City Centre walks tourists through over 2000 years of history, with some top tips from locals thrown in along the way. Remarkable, tour costs just over £5.

For the top attractions globally, New York’s Empire State Building secured the top spot. The Eiffel Tower in Paris, France, secured second place and Anne Frank’s house came in third place.

In addition to being home to the world’s most sustainable experience, the UK was also recognised for a Historical Pub Walking Tour of London, which came in 19th place overall. This walking tour spends half a day pub crawling across the capital.

For the Amusements & Water Parks category the UK boasts some of the best in the world according to Tripadvisor reviewers. Alton Towers Resort was named as the eighth best in the world and The Milky Way Adventure Park in Clovelly, Devon, was named 12th in the world.
