On 29 November 2023, from 11:00 to 12:30 CET, the European Alliance for Apprenticeships (EAfA) is holding a webinar to explore how apprenticeships can play a role in making the construction sector more environmentally sustainable.
Construction is one of the largest economic sectors, employing 13.5 million people and indirectly creating jobs for an additional 27 million. However, the sector is faced with hurdles in its transition to sustainability. It is also grappling with labour shortages due to an ageing workforce.
Recognising these challenges, EU initiatives such as the Renovation Wave and the New European Bauhaus are directing resources to promote sustainable construction and renovation practices, as well as explore renewable options. High-quality apprenticeships can be a key part of the solution. They can help align the workforce with sustainability goals and make the industry more appealing to women and other underrepresented groups.
The webinar will bring together experts, policymakers, industry representatives and members of the European Commission to delve into how apprenticeships can drive the construction sector’s journey toward environmental sustainability and address its workforce needs.
Key topics will include:
-
The significance of the construction sector in the context of the green transition; the role of apprenticeships in addressing labour shortages and promoting employment in the construction sector.
-
Best practices that demonstrate how sustainable skills can be integrated into construction apprenticeships. This includes examples of successful initiatives that enhance the attractiveness of apprenticeships among women.
-
Future trends in the construction sector and potential challenges related to the green transition. Exploration of how apprenticeships can adapt to meet evolving needs.
The webinar will be moderated by Ana Carrero, Deputy Head of Unit at the Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion of the European Commission. The webinar will feature an esteemed panel of speakers from national and European organisations.
We are looking forward to welcoming you!
