Roger Federer has stated that he is totally open to the possibility of leading Team Europe at the Laver Cup in the future. Federer participated in the Laver Cup three times as a player and is one of its founders. Federer, who retired from competitive tennis after the 2022 Laver Cup, traveled to Vancouver this week to attend the Laver Cup.

Bjorn Borg has been leading Team Europe since the Laver Cup’s start in 2017, while John McEnroe has been in charge of Team World.

Federer shared his thoughts about the prospect of captaining Team Europe at the Laver Cup and said: “Yes, I mean, why not? One day. I don’t think right away, but I am absolutely open to the thought and the idea of having great captains, assistant captains, or co-captains, whatever you want to call it.”

He further added: “But, just want to give back to the game in any type of form and, of course, being a captain of the Laver Cup would be definitely one of those things.”

Bjorn Borg, who captains Team Europe was highly respected and appreciated by Federer. In the interview, Federer noted that the Swedish tennis legend has so far done an excellent job with Team Europe.

Federer added remarks about Bjorn Borg and said: “That position is so locked by you forever and I don’t call you a king for any reason because you are the best. Bjorn I have loved my years with you as team captain, Spending time with you has been incredible, just to let you know, I love you Bjorn, It’s great to see you again here this week so thank you again for being here.”
